Etal castle is located in the county of Northumberland about twenty miles south west of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Being so close to the Scottish border the castle was under constant threat of attack by the Scots. To help protect the northern parts of England from invasion Sir Robert Manners, the owner of the castle, was granted a licence to build better defences around his home. This reconstruction shows how the castle he built may have looked.
