Beside John is a sack of grain that you need to complete the cake making quest, but before John will allow you to take it he wants you to help him fix his cart. He needs a new wheel and asks you to get one from Walter the carpenter. To find Walter turn around after finishing the conversation with John and turn left. Walter is at the end of the street on the left hand side.
Walter will not give you a cart wheel without payment so asks you to talk to John. John will ask you to talk to Walter again and when you do he will give you the wheel if you get his wood working tools sharpened. To obtain sharpened tools you need to complete the Help the blacksmith quest. Once Walter gives you the wheel take it to John who will allow to take the sack of grain.
When you visit the blacksmith you find that he is not there and his daughter Mary is standing outside his workshop. Mary informs you that her father is ill and is unable to work. If you ask her if you can help, Mary will ask you to get a potion from Catherine to make her father better. If you do that Mary says she will allow you to use the blacksmith tools yourself.
Go and talk to Catherine and tell her that you want a potion. You will need to have completed the Deliver the bread quest before continuing with this quest. But if you have she tells you that she has made one before and will give you a list of ingredients. These are some garlic, an onion, a fish eye and some water. To obtain the garlic, onion and fish, visit the small market stall just down the street from Catherine. Luckily you find that you are the stall holders one hundredth visitor and are allowed to take three items for free. Take the items you need and place them in the cooking pot.
Tetch some water from the waterwell on the other side of the village and pour it into the cooking pot. Talk to Catherine and she will make the potion after a short delay.
Most ingredients can be found on the small market stall.
The water can be fetched from the well if you have the bucket.
Once you have the potion return to the blacksmith's daughter. She will then allow you to use the blacksmith's workshop to sharpen the wood working tools.
