weyn was the first son of Godwin, Earl of Wessex and the brother of Harold Godwinson, who would become King Harold II King of England. In 1045 he attacked the abbey at Leominster and assulted or abducted the Abbess. For his crimes, Sweyn was exiled to Denmark by King Edward. There he became a pirate and raided the English coast. Sweyn attempted to return to England by regaining favour, but again when he murdered his cousin he was again exiled. He died in 1052 when, possibly to obtain forgiveness for his earlier crimes, he attempted a pilgrimage to Rome.
