hys ap Maredudd was a Welsh nobleman of the Deheubarth region who rebelled against King Edward I of England in 1287–1288. He was initially a supporter of Edward I during the conquest of Wales in the 1270s but grew discontented after being denied lands he believed were rightfully his. In June 1287, he launched a rebellion, capturing several castles, including Newcastle Emlyn. However, Edward responded swiftly, sending forces led by Edmund, Earl of Cornwall. By early 1288, Rhys's rebellion was crushed, and he became a fugitive. He was eventually captured and executed in 1292. His rebellion was significant as it was one of the last major Welsh uprisings before the larger revolt of Madog ap Llywelyn in 1294.
