Like his father Charlemagne, Louis was crowned by Pope Stephen IV at Reims Cathedral and proclaimed Emperor. He took control of his father's complete empire as he was the last surviving son.

Eventhough his father was still alive, Henry was crowned as the King of France. Henry's father Robert was feeble and wanted to ensure a successful transfer of control of the French throne. The coronation took place at Reims Cathedral.

Philippe the Tall, the younger brother of the late King Louis X of France, was crowned King of France, as King Philippe V, at Reims Cathedral. The only son of King Louis X had been born after his father's death, but died after four days.

King Philippe VI of France was crowned at Reims Cathedral. In England, Isabella, the mother of King Edward III, declared that her son should be the French King as she, as the elder sister of the late King of France, Charles IV, had a better claim.

Edward and his eldest sons departed from England and arrived in Calais the same day. They met no resistance as they marched to Reims. But the town was too well fortified to be captured so the English troops spent their time attacking the local towns and villages and taking supplies.

King John of France was still in captivity after his capture at the Battle of Poitiers and livng in a certain amount of luxury at the Savoy in London. But a mysterious illness became serious and his died. His body was transported to France for burial. His son Charles became king of France and was crowned at Reims Cathedral. ¹

Joan of Arc and the dauphin entered Reims. Charles was crowned in the Cathedral and became King of France.

Charles VII died in July of 1461 after a long illness resulting in an abscess in his mouth that meant he could not eat or drink. Louis, his son, had refused to see his dying father, but as soon as he learnt of the King's death Louis headed to Reims and Paris to claim the French throne. ¹

The roof and tower of Reims Cathedral were badly damaged by fire after workmen left a lit brasier unattended overnight in the roof space. ¹

September 18
Francis II was crowned King of France at Reims Cathedral. The ceremony was subdued because of the untimely death of his father. ¹

There appear to be some strange connections between the fourteenth century Old Wardour Castle and ancient stone circle Stonehenge.

Old Wardour Castle appears to be aligned to ancient sites in the Stonehenge landscape.

Stonehenge is aligned to the Summer Solstice. Old Wardour has a very similar alignment.
